Newcastle ‘Lose Out’ On £12m Rising Star
Liverpool have beaten a host of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, to the signing of Derby County prospect Will Hughes.
Now 18, Hughes made his debut two seasons ago, and has since become a highly-respected and sought-after commodity in the Championship.
The Sun reports that Brendan Rodgers has brokered a deal worth £12million to take Hughes to Anfield, while he had allegedly also been on the radar of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United.
The young playmaker made 35 appearances for Derby last season. This season, he has already scored 3 goals and grabbed 2 assists in his 15 League outings for the club. He has also made 5 appearances for the England Under 21 side managed by Gareth Southgate.
No indication has been given yet as to whether Liverpool intend to let Hughes return to Derby on loan to continue his development.
