Newcastle Linked With Boy From Brazil

Sources in Italy report that Roma, Benfica and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on young Brazilian hot-shot Abner.

The 17 year-old left-back is currently on the books of Brazilian club Coritiba, but has attracted the attention of big European sides thanks to a string of sterling performances at the Under 17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

His performances at that competition were watched by several British scouts and it is thought that they have seen enough to persuade Newcastle to attempt to bring him to Tyneside.

A fee in the region of £1.7million is being reported as the amount required to bring him out of Brazil and his signing would certainly fit in with United’s recent policy of buying young foreign players for development in their various youth sides.

Should Abner make the switch, he would follow in the footsteps of youngsters like Kevin Mbabu and Lubo Satka, both of whom were signed as teenagers from foreign clubs and have since been regulars in United’s youth teams.
