Newcastle and England Five Goal Special – Video

Geordie Fraser Forster made his debut for England this week against Chile and I’m sure like lots of Newcastle fans you’ll wish him all the best on this great achievement.

He may have had to leave for first team football but always great to see one of our own succeed.

Quite ironic really because these days we are probably further away than we have ever been in this Premier League era of having one of our players in the England set-up.

It wasn’t always that way of course and the Keegan era in particular saw a regular supply of black & whites pulling on the white shirt.

Shearer, Ferdinand, Batty, Venison, Beardsley, Lee, Howey…

Going a bit further back in time and one of Newcastle United’s greatest ever characters didn’t get the number of caps his talent deserved but he still wrote his name into the record books.

When Supermac made it into the England squad it created a lot of interest on Tyneside, a Newcastle player for England, almost unheard of at the time with the perceived southern bias of the selection process.

A European qualifier against Cyprus put Supermac’s name up in lights.

It was 1975 and he’d promised goals if selected, watch the video footage below to see all five he stuck away and it could and should have been more.

Also, this week we are looking at various angles that tie NUFC together with England and we have items featuring Shearer, Supermac and Jackie Milburn in the latest Mag Auctions.

Amongst the prized memorabilia we have up for grabs is the match programme from that famous England v Cyprus Supermac match, CLICK HERE to view the programme and the other NUFC/ENgland memorabilia.
