Newcastle French Star Writes Off World Cup Chances

While there will be undoubtedly some French Newcastle players representing their country (and Tyneside) in Brazil next season, one of the NUFC French contingent has written off his own chances of being at next summer’s World Cup finals.

Speaking to the Shields Gazette, Yoan Gouffran was asked about his chances of making the French squad;

“I don’t think so, every game it is the same players, 20 or 21 of them – every time it is the same players.

“However, I am happy to play for Newcastle, I am focused on Newcastle and if I play well then I’m happy and if we win I am happy.”

Alan Pardew has pushed the chances of Goffran possibly still making it, as well as Hatem Ben Arfa and Vurnon Anita – though you’d have to say at this stage it looks a very long, longshot.

Gouffran played 22 times, scoring 3 times, for the French Under 21 team but has never featured at senior level.

One thing for sure though, if he doesn’t make it then it won’t be for the want of trying for this month’s Mag cover star (see below), Yoan Gouffran.
