Fenham’s Super Eagle Is Flying To Brazil
Having helped Nigeria secure a place at next summer’s World Cup Finals in Rio de Janeiro, Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi looks set to retain his place in the squad for the competition next summer.
Speaking after the culmination of two games in quick succession for his side, manager Stephen Keshi has promised to stick with the squad that got Nigeria to the finals; the squad that includes Shola Ameobi.
“Most of them are going to be there in Brazil, as long as there are no injuries. This is the fifth or sixth time I’m taking the same team to a game.”
Nigeria faced Italy in a friendly at Fulham’s Craven Cottage on Monday evening and, with Ameobi’s help earned a 2-2 draw. Having failed to feature in their final qualifier against Ethiopia on Saturday, Shola scored a spectacular volley to put the Super Eagles 2-1 ahead, before the Azurri equalised.
