Coloccini To Be Benched On Sunday?

What might once have been seen as heresy might come to pass on Sunday.

I think we would all be pretty unanimous in saying Fabricio Coloccini is the most talented centre-back at Newcastle, he is also our captain.

However, if Colo is fit, should he walk back into the team?

In the past it would have been a no-brainer but when your defence has just shut out one of the best attacks in the country, should you be trying to fix what isn’t broken?

I don’t think this is a long-term solution but for a number of reasons I can see the logic in keeping the same back four in front of Tim Krul.

The only weak point on Saturday when it came to defending was Williamson totally dominated by John Terry on corners and by playing Coloccini instead, you are hardly going to increase our strength when it comes to defending set-pieces.

Giving Mapou and Williamson another game together will increase their confidence by staying in the team and sometimes unlikely partnerships can prosper, given the chance.

Risking Coloccini when he may not be 100% may not be the best idea either.

As for the captaincy issue, I honestly believe that Tiote is a better choice and his personal form has been enhanced by the extra responsibility.
