NUFC Told Wait For Defender Unless A Spectacular Offer
Back in July we brought you news from Belgium where it was claimed that Newcastle had made an offer for central defender Cheikhou Kouyate, the 23 year old is a Senegal teammate of Papiss Cisse’s but has also now got a Belgian passport making it straightforward now to move to the Premier League.
Now Anderlecht’s managing director has stated that Kouyate will be allowed to leave at the end of the season and only a ‘spectacular offer’ will allow him to leave in the January transfer window.
Anderlecht Defender, Cheikhou Kouyaté, now holds a Belgian passport, which gives him the status of an EU player, which he hopes will enable him to join the Premier League more easily, where two clubs are interested in him.
According to the Belgian daily, La Dernière Heure;
‘Cheikhou Kouyaté is bound for England. The player has received two offers, from Southampton, but especially Newcastle. Anderlecht , the club for which he plays, are asking seven million euros to let their player go.
A significant amount thinks Kouyaté:
“Yes, I think of a transfer, I’d be lying if I said the opposite. But my agents are dealing with it, and when they tell me a club that I would like shows interest, we think about it seriously. Until then, I remain focused on my job.
Seven million requested by Anderlecht, I think it’s a lot. I do not think a Premier League club would pay this amount for me. I believe that Anderlecht should lower my selling price.”
This is what Anderlecht’s managing director Herman van Holsbeeck has had to say this week;
“The chances that he (Kouyate) stays at Anderlecht during the winter transfer window are 75%, we’ve promised him a transfer at the end of the season, just as we did with Dieumerci Mbokani (now Dynamo Kiev) and Lucas Biglia (now Lazio).
“I am reading everywhere that he will be leaving this January but I’m not sure, finding a suitable replacement during the season is difficult.
“Only if a spectacular offer comes in would we allow him to leave.”
