Ambitious Krul Aims For Top Spot

With the World Cup fast approaching, Newcastle United goalkeeper is keen to continue his stellar form in the Premier League to try and force his way into the Holland squad for next summer’s tournament in Rio de Janeiro.

Krul produced an excellent display between the posts last Sunday as Newcastle beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at White Hart Lane. This performance has won him plaudits from many in football but Holland boss Louis Van Gaal is yet to be convinced and is expected to name Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen in goal for the Oranje’s upcoming friendly with Japan. If this is indeed the case, Krul will be hoping to play some part when Holland take on Colombia a few days later.

I am looking forward to meeting up with them, hopefully I’ll get a chance to play,” he said, “I’ve got a lot of confidence turning up for internationals.”

As well as Cillessen, there is also competition for the number one jersey from Fulham’s Maarten Stekelenburg and Swansea’s Michel Vorm, although the latter doesn’t feature in the Holland squad for the upcoming duo of friendlies.
