Will Newcastle United Refuse To Answer Any Further Questions?
I must admit when I first read about the setting up of the Fans Forum by Newcastle United I was totally dismissive of the idea.
I suspect the club also thought it could tick a few boxes, complying with guidelines and ‘communicating’ with fans. I also doubted whether or not anyone would come armed with ‘proper questions’ and it would end up being a nice little chat about the price of hot dogs and the like.
However, it’s fair to see that the account from NUST following last week’s fans forum revealed what we all probably thought about NUFC, but were surprised to have confirmed from club officials themselves.
The account from [intlink id=”34344″ type=”post”]NUST[/intlink], seemed to be a well-balanced and fair report, and reading the club released minutes (a day later than promised and after the NUST account)confirmed that it didn’t seem to be at variance with what had actually been discussed.
It was clear that the NUST rep had prepared in advance, since the questions asked were clearly aimed at getting to the hub of the issues which supporters really want answers to. That an organisation made up of volunteers can get details of a meeting out into the public domain quicker than the club, with its full time media department, says it all.
What is of further interest, is the fact that NUST have asked a number of probing questions at their very first attempt (communication which I understand they have been trying to initiate for some time) at getting to ‘chew the fat’ with club officials, whereas it’s fair to say our local media have come up somewhere short of that in the time they have been on the club’s beat – shame on them! We know that most of the time it’s far easier to do an article about who we are planning to sign in January than anything that might be considered probing.
Anyway, my guess is that the club will do its best to ‘chuck’ the next fans forum for any variety of reasons ,or perhaps kick the NUST off the forum .
Whilst I understand they (NUST) are permanent members, I’m sure the club can change the rules. Maybe they’ll insist that no information is released other than the official minutes which will be doctored accordingly.
More likely they will not answer any questions other than with the vaguest answers possible and in true politician style, with any NUST questions being sidelined. If there are attempts to sideline NUST I hope they’ll let us know.
