Taylor Has Boots At The Ready If Selected
Steven Taylor had intended to mark his return to fitness in interesting fashion, should he be selected to play against Sunderland, however his specially embroidered boots have been banned by manager Alan Pardew.
The central defender has had a pair of boots embroidered with the words ‘stamp collector’, in reference to his comments made last season in which he claimed he would, “rather collect stamps,” than play for Sunderland. He had hoped to wear the boots for today’s game but manager Pardew has quashed the plan for fear of inciting an unwanted reaction from the home supporters.
Taylor was sent off in the United’s opening day defeat to Manchester City and then, on his return from suspension, suffered an injury during training which has kept him out for the remainder of the season up to now.
Fit again, though lacking match practice, Taylor would be facing a team made up of players who, apart from striker Steven Fletcher, Taylor has claimed previously would not be good enough to make it into Newcastle’s starting XI.
