Sunderland Appoint Poyet Means ‘You Know Who’ Is Now Favourite To Replace Pardew

8 years ago

After the walking disaster that was Paolo Di Canio with all kinds of disciplinary problems, Sunderland have now appointed Gus Poyet after ‘careful consideration’.

That is the Gus Poyet who was sacked for Gross Misconduct by Brighton and while the south coast club have pledged to keep the reasons confidential, it hasn’t stopped the widespread rumours circulating of exactly what Poyet did to get the sack. The Brighton ex-manager pledged back in August to take legal action over the sacking but as yet nothing has come of that.

While we consider the merits of the mackems’ new appointment, Newcastle fans might feel that they have had a lucky escape as at one time Poyet was odds on favourite to replace Alan Pardew.

Before anybody starts breathing any sighs of relief, big or small, with Poyet’s job on Wearside confirmed, the latest betting on who will succeed Alan Pardew as Newcastle next permanent manager is as follow;

4/1 Kinnear
8/1 Lee Clark
16/1 Zola
16/1 Di Matteo
16/1 Solskjaer
(selected others)
25/1 Di Canio
40/1 Wise
250/1 Maradona
