Shola Ameobi – ‘A Very Disciplined Player Who Really Wants To Play’

Responding to doubts about Shola Ameobi’s availability for their World Cup play-off, Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi has allayed those fears and said that Shola ‘is a very disciplined player who really wants to play’.

The Super Eagles travel to Ethiopia on October 13 to play the first leg of their World Cup play-off, the winners will confirm their place for Brazil next summer.

Shola hasn’t been seen since picking up an unconfirmed injury when last on international duty in early September and Keshi was responding to reports that the Newcastle striker would be missing for a further few weeks.

Nigeria’s coach Keshi saying yesterday (Wednesday) on MTNFootball.com;

“Shola is fine, he will be ready for the game against Ethiopia. I spoke with him last week and he said that he is good. In any case he is a very disciplined player who really wants to play for his country.”

I’ve got to say I find it strange that Shola can be so sure of his availability when he hasn’t even been on the bench in the last month and there will be more than a few Newcastle fans who will find the comments about his ‘discipline’ and ‘wanting to play’ amusing, considering how regularly he is unavailable for Newcastle despite playing so few matches.
