Newcastle United v Manchester City
Wednesday 30 October 7.45pm Live On SKY Sports

Luckily Cheick Tiote isn’t now sitting in a cell after receiving a suspended sentence on Monday for his driving licence shenanigans.

Easily Newcastle’s best player in recent matches, Alan Pardew would have also been looking for a new captain. Which could have proved a bit tricky judging by the lack of leadership shown elsewhere on the pitch on Sunday.

Putting together the various pieces of info from Pardew it would appear that;

Definitely Playing – Tiote, Anita, Cisse, Mapou

Definitely Missing – Coloccini and Steven Taylor injured, while Jonas is in Argentina dealing with personal issues

Almost definitely playing – Williamson would appear a certainty judging by the lack of options, while I think popular belief is that either Debuchy or Santon will play right side with Dummett or Haidara on the left.

The Newcastle manager talked of playing three or four players who are ‘pushing’ for a first team place and whether that 3 or 4 includes the confirmed Anita and Mapou participation is anybody’s guess. The list of possibles would also appear then to include the Ameobi brothers, Marveaux, Elliot and….Obertan.

I had to laugh when I saw a headline suggesting Manchester City’s squad shortcomings could be shown up tonight, Kompany is likely to miss and Hart make way for Pantilimon, while Pellegrini will ‘only’ have some twenty odd international options to choose from for the remaining shirts.

The four goal demolition, which could have been a lot more, seems both ages ago and at the the same time just a week or two ago. What Newcastle can’t afford is to let City again dictate the whole game, there has to be some adventure shown and ambition to compete higher up the pitch.

The facts show that after a certain team who play in black and white, Manchester City are the worst for conceding more goals once they’ve conceded in a match, so that suggests that United could very well be rewarded if they have a nothing to lose attitude.

While the visitors beat West Ham recently on their travels; defeats in the Premier League to Chelsea, Cardiff, Villa and a draw at Stoke show that these are no world beaters we face tonight.

I know it is easy as fans to say put our strongest team out but I honestly think that putting Mapou in and them sending the same lot out to prove themselves would give us every chance.

Our chance I feel depends not just on how many changes but how it affects our goal threat. As long as we have three or more possible goal scorers on the pitch (Cisse, Gouffran, Sissoko?) then we have a fighting chance.

I honestly feel that one of these days Cisse will fire up again when we least expect it, while Sissoko will again show the early form we were treated to, possibly a different formation can remove his shackles tonight?

Remember you can pay on the door tonight and get rid of the frustrations you might feel about the rest of the nonsense that is ongoing at St.James’ Park.

Betting – NUFC To Win 22/5 – Cisse To Score First NUFC Goal 4/1 – Sissoko To Be man Of Match 12/1
