Poyet Plans To Play 34 Year Old Who Hasn’t Played In Almost 2 Years

While you can never believe everything managers say, especially before derby matches, Gus Poyet is adamant that he is considering playing a 34 year old veteran who hasn’t played in almost 2 years!

After collapsing and conceding four at Swansea last weekend, the Sunderland manager is seriously considering playing Wes Brown whose last competitive game was in January 2012 against Middlesbrough.

“If you need experience and intelligence and players who’ve played at the highest level in the biggest games, he’s one of them, so I would not be too worried on that side.

“It is something that we have been struggling with, that mental side, so mentally I don’t think there could be a better player.”

I know things are desperate on Wearside but I’ll laugh my head off if We Brown is in their starting eleven on Sunday.

A half decent player on his day, no more than that, this is surely a massive gamble and demonstrates how rubbish Poyet’s other alternatives are.

The likes of Ben Arfa, Remy and Gouffran will be loving it if they see Brown lining up against them.
