Players Put Cash In To Help Cut Cost For Away Fans – Will It Catch On?

This season has seen the introduction of a 3 year agreement whereby each Premier League club will spend £200,000 per season ‘enhancing the away supporter experience’, the money coming from the new broadcasting deals.

However, one club has gone a step further and added to this fund with the players all paying in to top up the £200k.

While overall I find Manchester City an abomination in terms of how they are funded and the negative effect that has on English football, they clearly have also invested off the field in a dynamic marketing team who have produced a range of great PR initiatives.

On this occasion, all of the senior players and coaches have paid in £1000 each to help fund discounted deals for fans who travel away.

Of course £1000 to these players is next to nothing but it is a great symbolic gesture that helps bind players and fans together.

Would be nice to think Newcastle’s players might buy into a similar idea because the relationship between supporters and players is by far the most important.
