Pardew Puts His Faith In Cisse
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has thrown down the gauntlet to out of form and out of favour striker Papiss Cisse.
Pardew is set to name Cisse in his starting XI tonight after leaving him on the bench for Newcastle’s last two Premier League games against Liverpool and Sunderland, and he has urged his number 9 to get back amongst the goals and further United’s cup run in order to put himself back in contention for a place in United’s Premier League starting XI.
“He needs to play well. I think he needs a goal. We looked a different team when he was firing so we need to get him firing again. Tonight will give him the opportunity to do that.
“He has come out of the team. Sometimes you need to reflect and really focus when you play. Hopefully he’ll play well.”
Cisse has been playing catch-up to the rest of the United squad in terms of fitness since a dispute over United’s new shirt sponsor Wonga meant he missed a large part of United’s pre-season training. He will now be hoping to hit something similar to the form he showed when he first arrived on Tyneside when his goals helped fire his new side to a fifth place finish in the Premier League.
