Pardew Options Increase As Newcastle United’s Treatment Room Empties
Steven Taylor is expected to be fit for the visit of Liverpool to St James’ Park on Saturday 19th October.
The centre back has managed just 48 minutes of first-team football this season.
After being sent off against Manchester City during Newcastle’s opening day 4-1 defeat, Taylor returned to the bench for United’s visit to Aston Villa after serving a three game ban before suffering an injury in training.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was asked if he thought the international break would give Taylor time to regain fitness, to which he replied “of course.” He also spoke on Newcastle’s injury situation as compared to last season’s: “so far, fingers crossed, we’ve come through relatively unscathed.”
United’s treatment room is also expected to be now free of defender Massadio Haidara and striker Shola Ameobi. After the recent return to fitness of winger Jonas Gutierrez, United’s only main casualty will be long-term absentee Ryan Taylor.
