Pardew Knocks Back Talk Of Selling Defender
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has refuted claims that he is looking to sell recent defensive acquisition Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa following comments made by the player’s former chairman at Montpelier, Laurent Nicollin.
Yanga-Mbiwa was signed from the French club in January and, following his losing his place in the Newcastle starting XI, the Montpelier chairman suggested that the defender had made a mistake in moving to Tyneside. Pardew, however, thinks otherwise.
“Everybody has the right to an opinion, but that particular one is not one I share.
“We paid a lot of money for him and, in this situation, you’re looking for a bit of character from a player; that’s what we have seen in him.
“He has come out of the side, had a look at it and now he is back in it. I’d like to think he’ll show his character.”
Mbiwa will now serve a ban following his sending off against Liverpool and so will have to work once again to force his way back into Newcastle’s starting XI, so he will be hoping that his manager retains such faith in him.
