Pardew Confirms Two Defenders Missing On Wednesday

Alan Pardew had said at his pre-Sunderland press conference on Friday that both Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor had outside chances of playing in the derby match.

The Newcastle manager even reported that Steven Taylor had trained well all week, however not everything was as it seemed.

This is what Pardew has subsequently said;

“Steven (Taylor) got re-injured on Thursday and as for Colo we’re not sure whether he is going to be OK for Wednesday (Manchester City). We have got to make sure he is right for the Premier League and I think Chelsea’s the next chance we can see him.”

Taylor (if we can believe the manager this time!) is becoming ever more injury prone and while no surprise to see the manager saying that Chelsea would take priority over Manchester City in the cup, I personally find it hard to believe that Colo will even make it for the Chelsea match – especially with the negative slant on his injury when we were first told he had a groin problem.

So for City, almost certainly Chelsea…and my money would be on the Spurs match as well, Newcastle will be relying on I’d assume Mapou and Williamson to keep out arguably three of the best strike forces in the Premier League.
