NUFC Defender Promises To Work On His…Defending
Newcastle United’s Italian left-back Davide Santon has promised to work to improve the defensive side to his game.
Santon is an attack-minded left-back but manager Alan Pardew is keen to see him work on his defensive skills and this is something Santon intends to do.
I will always do my best. I have experience and know what I have to do in games in the future.”
Santon is happily settled on Tyneside with his partner and young child, but has recently come under pressure for his place in United’s starting XI from Academy product Paul Dummett, also 22 and Frenchman Massadio Haidara, 20.
After winning just two away games all last season, Newcastle have already equalled that total this time around with two 2-1 wins away to Aston Villa and Cardiff City, but Santon is adamant the team will not rest on its laurels.
“We have ten points. Our away record is important but we have to keep going and give 100%. We cannot stop.”
After Saturday’s win against Cardiff, during which Santon claims the Magpies had a “winning mentality,” the Italian took time to thank the fans for the continued support.
“The fans were fantastic. They always support us everywhere we go. They deserved this win.”
