Newcastle Manager Unveils The New Fernando Torres
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has instructed Papiss Cisse to follow the example of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres after another frustrating game for the out of form Senegalese striker.
Chelsea’s Torres famously endured a lengthy barren spell in front of goal following his £50million transfer from Liverpool, but has recently rediscovered something near to the form that saw him transferred for such a high fee. Recently, he has scored goals for the Londoners both in the Champions League for Chelsea – against Schalke – and in the Premier League – against Manchester City. It is this return to form that Pardew is pointing to as an example for Cisse to follow.
“If there is ever an example of coming out of this spell, it’s Torres who’s suddenly come alive. We have to hope that happens for Papiss.”
Cisse saw a glorious chance to put Newcastle in front saved by Manchester City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, and his manager believes this latest miss affected the striker’s confidence for the rest of the game.
“He wasn’t quite the same after that. But that’s what it’s like for strikers and he has got to keep going.”
