Newcastle United’s centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, newly returned from suspension, is out for revenge tonight against the side who beat United 4-0 on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Manchester City travel to St James’ Park tonight with a place in the quarter finals of the League Cup at stake and Yanga-Mbiwa spoke of putting in a performance to dispel memories of that sour opening day, and the disappointment of Sunday’s derby loss to Sunderland.

We must learn from it [the game against Manchester City].

If we play well we can go through. We all want to do well and to help ourselves move up and continue to do well.”

The ex-Montpelier skipper also spoke of repaying the faith Newcastle United fans have shown in the team. “We need to play and remember the first game with City. That helps us do well tonight and to prove to ourselves and the fans that this was a mistake.”
