Newcastle United’s Tim Krul Aiming High
Newcastle United goalkeeper, Tim Krul, has set his sights on being Holland’s first-choice goalkeeper by the time the World Cup comes around next summer.
Ahead of the Dutch side’s final two qualifying games, Krul talked of his determination to show those running his country’s national side what he can do.
Holland have already secured top position in their group ahead of the final two games – against Hungary and Turkey – and so this is an ideal opportunity for fringe players to prove their worth, according to Krul.
“These two matches are ideal moments. The coach has no fixed team yet; it’s all still open.
The World Cup is at the end of the season so we’ve still got a long way to go in which I can prove myself. Things can change.”
Krul is possibly regarded as Holland’s third choice ‘keeper, behind Swansea City’s Michael Vorm and Ajax’s Kenneth Vemeer and, having not played for the national team since their 1-1 home draw with Italy in February, Krul will be hoping for an opportunity to show his worth to manager Louis van Gaal.
