Does The Money Go To Newcastle United Or Sports Direct When You Buy From The Club Shop?
A number of fans have been in touch with concerns about where their money is going if they buy something online and/or over the counter from the Newcastle United club shop.
It would seem a simple question with a simple answer, or is it? Surely money spent in the Newcastle United club shop must go to Newcastle United?
As for when you look at the NUFC club shop online (NUFCDirect.com) though, it gets all very bizarre.
Amongst the information you find on the official NUFC shop website is the following;
The NUFC Direct website is operated by SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd. Whose registered address is Unit A, Brook Park East, Shirebrook NG20 8RY (Sports Direct headquarters).
For UK orders…a contract to purchase and deliver goods takes effect between you and SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd.
For overseas orders….a contract to purchase the goods from SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd, and a contract to deliver the goods to you takes effect between you and Etail Services Limited (a wholly owned company of Sports Direct International PLC).
Unless otherwise specified the intellectual property rights in the contents of all the pages in this website, are owned or licensed to SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd, or are used with permission from the owner.

Taking the above at face value, clearly the contract is between you and Sports Direct if you buy something, NOT Newcastle United.
The only question therefore, is whether the money (profit) is then funnelled back into the football club’s coffers…or not?
I think I know which option my money would be on but this is definitely looking like another question for the club’s newly formed Fans’ Forum when they meet again on Monday 16 December.
