Coloccini Set To Miss Liverpool So Pick Any Two From Three
Fabricio Coloccini has been forced to pull out of the Argentina squad to face Uruguay on Tuesday with a ‘muscle injury’.
Alarm bells are ringing now for the Liverpool match, memories of our six goal defeat etched on the brain, a game which Coloccini missed…
The Argentina FA have released the following statement;
That last match at St.James’ Park against the red scousers saw Newcastle line up with Mapou and Taylor at centre-back in Colo’s absence, while this time it would appear that Williamson is likely to start and if our captain doesn’t make it then it will be a toss up between Mapou and Taylor to partner him.
Sturridge and Suarez are in great form and I’m already doing deals with the devil in the hope that Coloccini will somehow be fit in time to face them.
I think I must have been tempting fate when I wrote [intlink id=”34824″ type=”post”]the following only a few days ago[/intlink]…
I am reminded of the classic Wizard Of Oz film though, where on their journey you had the Scarecrow looking for a brain, the Lion hoping to find courage and the Tin Man searching for a heart.
While I wouldn’t want to exactly match them up and for example accuse any of our players of lacking courage, I do think there are parallels and all 3 have fatal flaws;
Steven Taylor obviously lacks a brain at times, Mapou is finding it tough handling the physical side of the game in England as well as looking totally lost at times, while unfortunately Mike Williamson cannot play football – in terms of passing the ball to a teammate more than 3 yards away type of football.
Coloccini picks himself but I can see times in the season ahead where the manager will end up switching centre-back partners any number of times – all three have had games already and shown their deficiencies in various ways and variable extents.
The mind boggles as to which two of the three Alan Pardew would choose if anything happened to Colo, I honestly think that secretly he would pick two of the three names out of the hat.
