Coach Of France Didier Deschamps Gives His Verdict On Loic Remy
The latest French squad included four Newcastle United players; Mathieu Debuchy, Moussa Sissoko and the recalled Yohan Cabaye & Loic Remy.
The last named was probably the most notable in Didier Deschamps’ squad and has provoked a lot of column inches in France.
This is how French media organisation Maxifoot covered the story;
‘Andre-Pierre Gignac is currently injured and the coach of the France team, Didier Deschamps has chosen to recall the Newcastle striker Loic Remy (26 years, 18 caps and 4 goals) for the next two games (Finland world qualifying match and Australia friendly).
“Loic is playing again, he is able to play in several positions, he is effective again, he is capable of coming back deep and offer speed, it allows me different attacking options” said Deschamps at a press conference before being asked about the fact that legal proceedings are currently underway and could disrupt the player. “Remy has a pending case. Until proven otherwise, he is presumed innocent.” said Deschamps.
The last selection of Remy for the Blues was back on 22 March 2013.’
One of our people covering events in France and our main translator (thanks yet again), Pierre, has found that the French media are really surprised at how little coverage Remy’s potential court case is getting in the English press. Over the channel, when it came to Deschamps’ pre-match press conference it was the first subject all of the journalists wanted to ask the French coach about..
