Cardiff manager, Malky Mackay, has revealed that he turned down Newcastle United.

When he was manager at Watford, Mackay was offered the number two job under Alan Pardew but knocked it back to stay at the Hornets.

Speaking to the BBC, Mackay said;

“We did have a conversation about me going up there as his number 2 but it didn’t happen.

I am delighted though to be manager of Cardiff and I am very proud to be manager here, it is something that I am very much enjoying.”

He is somebody who I have got a lot of respect for and we talk regularly, which we’ve done regularly since my time at West Ham with him, he is a good friend of mine.

He has been a mentor for me over the past few years, I was his captain at West Ham and he is a good friend of mine who has done a very good job at Newcastle.”
