Alan Pardew was speaking today ahead of the visit of Chelsea on Saturday.

The Newcastle manager is confident of United’s ability to get a win with the help of the fans but has identified two factors that stand in his way.

Alan_Pardew_Newcastle_United_NUFC_68Firstly, the fact he is facing possibly the best manager in the world, plus the small matter of the visitors spending £60m more than Newcastle United’s zero outlay on first team squad signings in the summer.

“I think spending £60 in the summer helps! They’ve got a manager who is arguably the best in the world; so you bring those factors together…

“You can see by his demeanour that Joe Mourinho is at the top of his game at the minute.

“We look at the last four or five games and I think we have been pretty good. With our fans’ backing at home, it is very very important in that stadium that our fans are behind us like they were on Wednesday night. We can create that pressure you need to do to kind of unsettle a top team.

“If we can do that we can get a victory.”
