Alan Pardew Names His Two Centre-Backs To Face Liverpool
Fabricio Coloccini came back early from international duty early with a groin injury, despite not kicking a ball in anger.
Alan Pardew confirmed at Thursday’s press conference that his captain would definitely miss the Liverpool match and they would monitor him with the hope he can make Sunderland.
That left the manager’s options down to three in terms of centre-backs to face the scousers and whatever Alan Pardew’s choice would have been between Taylor, Mapou and Williamson, the decision has been taken out of his hands.
By default the manager has confirmed that his centre-back pairing to face Liverpool will be Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Mike Williamson, following the latest injury update from Pardew in the Chronicle;
“He (Steven Taylor) was not even close to being included, he has not kicked a ball for four weeks.
He will start (training) on Monday.”
So arguably the best current strike partnership up against a centre-back pairing who were third and fourth choice at the start of the season – interesting!
