Alan Pardew Gets Wish As Late Late Cisse Goal Gives Hope Against Cheick Tiote – Video
Newcastle teammates Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse faced off against other on Saturday night for the opportunity to play in the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer.
Ivory Coast went into the two-legged tie as hot favourites but Papiss Cisse has given Sengal hope for the home*** (to be played on a neutral ground) tie with a goal five minutes deep into injury time.
Tiote’s team went three goals up inside 49 minutes and looked to be cruising but Cisse struck late with his left foot to keep the tie alive, Tiote getting his customary yellow card on 86 minutes.
While Alan Pardew will be neutral as to which nation qualifies, he’d stated before the match that he hoped Cisse might score and build his confidence up that little bit more.
The late late goal brings back memories of similarly timed strikes for Newacstle last season which helped preserve our Premier League status. Last night’s strike also confirming that Cisse is at his best when he is instinctive, this goal a sharp left foot finish when he is quickly onto the ball when it drops.
Watch the goal below and fingers crossed he rediscovers that sharpness at St.James’ Park.
