Agent Names Newcastle Strike Target Price In January

8 years ago

January may see a conclusion to the seemingly never ending Bafetimbi Gomis transfer saga.

The player was allegedly poised to join Newcastle in the summer only for a dispute over wages and/or who would pay what between the clubs, including a cut due to his previous club, or so it was claimed at the time.

Newcastle have been credited with a continued interest and now Lazio are also said to be looking at a potential deal in January, with Gomis only having a few months left on his contract.

The player’s agent has been approached by the Italian media and this is what agent Francesco Di Frisco had to say about the player’s future to Tutto Mercato when a possible price was suggested for Gomis;

“Yes knowing the president of Lyon, it (3m Euros) should be the maximum in the winter market, with the player out of contract in June 2014.”

With Lyon only fourteenth in the table and Gomis having scored one goal in five matches, you won’t imagine that Lyon will be fighting that hard to keep him come January.

If Newcastle are going to try and seal the deal then the fact has to be faced that in any deal like this, as the length of contract remaining falls along with the purchase price, then the amount of wages expected goes the other way. Is Ashley prepared to change his policy on wages now if he’s paying a lower transfer fee?

The short-term deal on Remy has shown that the Newcastle owner has compromised on that one year deal but will he commit to three or four years of the money Gomis would expect?
