Sunderland 14 Newcastle United 0 – It Doesn’t Have To Be The Only Possible Result
As Newcastle United fans we have become accustomed to having a whole heap of rubbish thrown at us, especially from the media and fans of other clubs.
However, where it gets really under your skin is when your own club are taking the proverbial.
‘We get criticised a lot for perhaps not overspending and not perhaps being a little bit more ambitious in terms of our signings.
But you can look at those other situations where it has not gone well and Leeds are an example of that unfortunately.”
It is like your bank manager (modern day equivalent – call centre operative!) asking what you are complaining about when you complain about ridiculous bank charges or savings rates, ‘just look at Lehman Brothers/Northern Rock’ Etc Etc!!
For Pardew to talk about ‘a little bit more ambitious’ he is really having a laugh. Last season Newcastle just avoided relegation after only buying one player last summer, now this summer United didn’t buy anybody!
Already we are seeing the foolishness of this short-sighted transfer ‘policy’ with the likes of Cisse having to stay in the team despite in atrocious form, there aren’t any alternatives – the same when Ben Arfa was having a stinker on Saturday, even in those circumstances your’e hardly going to replace when the alternative is Sammy Ameobi!
The way our manager and others at the club speak, you would think we were demanding Messi and Ronaldo, or Manchester City type spending – not just a few sensible signings in key areas where we can all see the squad is weak.
Nobody is calling for a mad signing spree like Di Canio did at the mackems with a ridiculous 14 new faces this summer.
There are an awful lot of players out there who would have improved our team/squad and wouldn’t necessarily have cost the earth, the choice doesn’t have to be zero or fourteen, just a sensible path to help take us forward.
