Russian Media Report Newcastle Scouts Watching Striker

There are reports in Russia that Newcastle United are considering a move for a Moscow based striker in January.

Even Alan Pardew is still lamenting the fact Newcastle didn’t bring in a striker in the summer and Papiss Cisse remains desperately out of form and goals.

So you would assume/hope that United will be looking to invest in the next window and the Russian daily paper Izvestia has reported that Newcastle scouts have been watching Seydou Doumbia.

The 25 year old 5ft 10 striker can use both feet and has a great record for CSKA Moscow, with 57 goals in 88 matches, including Champions League goals.

He’s contracted until 2015 and is an Ivory Coast teammate of Cheick Tiote.

Coming back from injury, Doumbia has been included in the CSKA squad that travelled to Germany for tonight’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

Everton are also claimed to be watching the player but the possibility of a deal for any club would seemingly rest with CSKA not getting through the Champions League group stage.

Naturally we all know, to our cost, that counting on signing strikers over three months before the window opens is a dangerous pastime.

The fact remains though that United are in desperate need of another striker option, even if Papiss Cisse rediscovers his shooting boots.
