Last week saw the first Fans Forum take place with the club and I have to say, it raised more questions/worries (delete as appropriate) than it answered.

On the subject of cup competitions (of which last season there were three, this season two) we have been informed that these are “to secure match experience for the wider squad” and that “the club is also mindful of injuries following last season’s Europa League”. So that rules us out of attempting to qualify for it again then . .

No wait, apparently “The club’s intention last season, was to finish in the top eight”. So I assume that means in a position good enough for the Europa league then?

Also “We want to finish in the top ten this season”. Oh goody, but once again, the lack of investment surely defies this aim.

No wait. “If the two transfer windows in 2013 are combined, Newcastle United are in the top ten spenders in the Premier League”. That’s us in the top ten then. Football doesn’t work like that. The spending in January must surely be looked at as preserving our Premier League status and an admission that we under spent summer 2012? January 2013 was a rescue mission, not a recruitment drive.

Moving on. On the subject of the quite frankly nauseous Sports Direct branding on every space possible, we are informed “Sports Direct don’t pay, but it would be sold if advertisers wanted the space”. Surely companies would want it, if they weren’t laughing at us over the Joe Kinnear affair, or if we weren’t linked with W**ga, or if the club were in Europe and had a wider audience? But then again that’s NOT how we roll here . .

Speaking of JFK. We are told that Mike Ashley wanted someone, “who he trusted and was a football man that understood the game. Joe Kinnear was the owner’s choice”. Does that mean that the board were not behind the appointment? That last bit suggests so. It would certainly be a reason for Derek Llambias jumping ship.

On the latest media cash injection. “In reality, the TV deal assisted those clubs that weren’t operating as shrewdly as we have been”. This is very foolhardy. It’s actually admitting that we have let others strengthen without doing so ourselves. We have given them the chance to play catch up, without kicking on.

Also mentioned was “The number of supporters we have is a massive plus for us”. Well of course it is, which other club would turn out in their droves for a league cup game midweek, which we now know has little or no meaning to the club?

Finally, “The board has already picked the 2014/15 home and away kits”. Well that’s good news. Another season, another new kit. More money through the coffers. Is this needed? Really? Oh, sorry “The number of supporters we have is a massive plus for us” .
