Pardew In Hunt For Krul ‘Successor’

The Journal has reported that Newcastle United have allegedly drawn up a hitlist of five goalkeeping targets, to be called upon if they were to lose one of their two first-choice keepers in Tim Krul and Rob Elliot.

While Krul has reportedly attracted the attentions of both Arsenal and Barcelona, it is also mooted that substitute bench-regular Elliot may wish for a move away to guarantee a place in a starting XI as manager Alan Pardew claims he has now established himself as a “Premier League goalie.”

Among the goalkeepers on this hitlist are said to be Watford’s Jonathon Bond and PSV Eindhoven’s Jeroen Zoet. Indeed, United are said to have had a move for Bond lined up and in place, only for a disagreement over the transfer fee on deadline day to eventually scupper the deal with the Championship club.

United also had a scouting presence in Twente last weekend to watch Zoet’s part in his club’s 2-2 draw.

While Tim Krul remains United’s number one, Alan Pardew was quick to praise Rob Elliot’s performances of last season.

We had faith in him and he’s repaid that faith. He’s now pushing Tim for a place in the team and is a Premier League goalie by anyone’s game.”
