Pardew Eyeing Leeds Defender Tonight
Ahead of tonight’s League Cup game against Leeds United, Magpies manager Alan Pardew has expressed an interest in the Yorkshire club’s promising young right-back Sam Byram.
The youngster, rated at £8million, is highly thought of among many Premier League clubs; it is believed that Newcastle will have to battle off the attentions of Manchester City, Everton and West Brom to secure his services.
Since making his debut for Leeds 13 months ago against Burnley, Byram has racked up 54 appearances, notching 4 goals.
Despite having built up a reputation for signing players from overseas, in particular from France, Alan Pardew is keen to add more of a British flavour to his squad. In addition, since the departure of Danny Simpson to QPR over the summer, Mathieu Debuchy is now the only experienced right-back in Pardew’s squad, making the need for reinforcements all the more pressing.
The young right-back could well feature at St James’ Park as part of the visiting Leeds’ team in tonight’s League Cup fourth round tie with Newcastle.
