Newcastle v Aston Villa – Swap Today’s Line-up For The August 2010 One?

8 years ago

Our recently history has some close ties with Saturday’s opponents and that relegation reception we got from the Villa fans left a bad taste in the mouth.

A club who most Newcastle fans couldn’t care a less about, bothering to make banners etc to celebrate our possible demotion.

Only 15 months later and Newcastle got sweet revenge with a six goal (Carroll 3, Nolan 2, Barton) demolition at St.James’ Park.

Only three years ago but this is the line-up that taught the Villains a lesson;

Harper, Perch, Coloccini, Williamson, Enrique, Barton, Nolan, Routledge, Smith, Jonas, Carroll

I’m not sure I would have named at least 2 or 3 of those as having started that game but a bit of a change in personnel when you look at the starting line-up Newcastle had for the visit of Fulham last match;

Krul, Debuchy, Coloccini, Mapou, Santon, Marveaux,Anita, Sissoko, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Shola

Alan Pardew of course may have a few more starting options for the coming weekend but looking at the two line-ups above, would you say Newcastle have gone forwards, backwards or stationary?

Would you take the starting eleven from 22nd August 2010 over the one that started 31st August 2013? You decide.
