Newcastle Strike Target – ‘He’s Not Like Zorro!’

Bernard Lacombe is advisor to Lyon’s President Jean-Michel Aulas and he has been talking about trying to integrate Bafetimbi Gomis back into the first team.

Gomis was a key figure last season when he scored twenty goals and with no new contract agreed there appears an acceptance that the striker will still leave in either January or next summer.

Lyon have withdrawn a complain about Marseille tapping Gomis up but according to L’Equipe, both Newcastle and Marseille are still interested in signing the striker.

Talking to L’Equipe, Lacombe had this to say about bringing Gomis back into the fold;

“It will not be like Zorro! Do not expect miracles, the rhythm is the hardest thing to find.

The problem with him was financial, not sporting, how can we speak of a sporting problem when he has scored between fifteen and twenty goals a season.

The football world is sometimes ruthless, there’s no other word for it.

Remember it was a financial problem, it has been a difficult time for Bafe, the club, everyone.”
