Newcastle Look To End 14 Game Run Without A Win

Following Newcastle’s victory against Leeds United in last Wednesday’s Capital One Cup tie, they were rewarded with a home draw against Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City.

The draw was made live on Sky Sports upon the conclusion of the game at Old Trafford in which Manchester United saw off Liverpool.

After the pasting administered to the Magpies at the hands of Manchester City in the first game of the season, many would be forgiven for doubting United’s chances at progressing to the quarter finals of the competition and the statistics give those of a black and white persuasion further cause for concern: Newcastle have failed to beat the Eastlands side in their last 14 games, a run stretching over 8 years.

For those of a certain age, the tie will evoke memories of the 1976 defeat to Manchester City in the League Cup final and a fourth round defeat to the Citizens in the fourth round of the same competition in 1994.

The game will be televised live on Sky Sports on Wednesday October 30th with a 7:45pm kick off.
