Fulham Under 18s 0 Newcastle U18s 1

It was a first away win of the season for Newcastle United’s Under 18 squad away to Fulham on Saturday.

Ben Drennan scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the capital as the young Magpies capped off a fine display with a win.

After a tight opening period, the visitors started to exert some pressure on their hosts with Drennan being denied by Fulham ‘keeper Magnus Norman before finding the net midway through the first half.

Fulham pressed for an equaliser in the second period and had a great chance to draw level as Liam Donnelly saw his shot rebound off the post as the Cottagers attempted to level the scores.

United held on for the victory though, finally managing to inject some positivity into a campaign which has so far yielded five losses from their opening six matches.

The win was especially impressive considering Fulham had previously picked up five wins and a draw from their previous six fixtures.

Newcastle lined up as follows:

Team: Mitchell, Morgan, Gibson, Drennan, McKinnon, Cameron, Barlaser, Storey, Roberts, Gilliead (Olley 72), Laidler (Hall 77).
Subs n/u:Woolston, Cobain.
