Newcastle Fail Again To Fill 25 Man Squad
Once the transfer window slammed shut on Monday night, Premier League clubs then had 36 hours to present their squads for the coming season.
Each club could name a maximum of 25 senior players eligible to play in the Premier League this season, with those under 21 additional to that total.
Clubs were further limited by the fact that there was a maximum of 17 senior players who aren’t ‘home grown’. The criteria for home grown is that the player has to have been registered with an English/Welsh club for 3 seasons/36 months, that period not necessarily been continuous (out on loan etc.). So home grown doesn’t mean English/Welsh, just registered in this country at a young age.
Anyway, technicalities aside, Newcastle have named 24 players, though in order to get up to that figure they included Ryan Taylor who unfortunately has no chance of playing this season.
The 9 home grown players are;
Krul, Elliot, Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Williamson, Dummett, Tavernier, Gosling, Shola
While the 15 non-home grown are;
Anita, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Cisse, Coloccini, Debuchy, Gouffran, Jonas, Mapou, Marveaux, Obertan, Remy, Santon, Sissoko, Tiote
There were 42 under 21s named and they include the likes of Vuckic, Campbell and Sammy Ameobi who are likely to be involved this season.
