Match Stats Prove Newcastle United’s Deserved Win Over Aston Villa
There are matches where you are under the cosh and get a breakaway goal to win the game.
This wasn’t one of them.
From the opening few minutes Newcastle were the better and most importantly, more threatening team.
Yes Villa eventually had a go but I find it hard to remember the home side making Krul have to dirty his gloves.
The BBC agreed and their match stats showed the following;
Shots 10 (Villa) 17 (NUFC)
On Target 1 (Villa) 8 (NUFC)
Corners 4 (Villa) 2 (NUFC)
Possession 55% (Villa) 45% (NUFC)
It is overwhelming the number of shots Newcastle had, especially in terms of on target.
Yes, Villa may have had a little more possession and a couple more corners but when it comes to the key factors, Newcastle United were on another level.
The benefits of better players on the pitch and a more attacking formation were there for all to see, let’s hope Alan Pardew doesn’t change a winning formula…
