Latest Cabaye Setback
With chaos surrounding Yohan Cabaye’s start to the season, it looks as though the French midfielder’s season has now taken another turn for the worst.
Last season Cabaye had surgery on his groin and missed a major part of the season, then on Saturday our playmaker limped off after an hour with what is reported to be a potential groin problem, with the club’s medical staff said to be assessing the problem.
After an energetic performance at Villa, it looked a different story against Hull as early in the first half he already was bent over breathing deeply after one particular sprint to close down the opposition.
Maybe in retrospect the writing was on the wall early on and for a player whose game is built so much on non-stop workrate and getting in the faces of the opposition, he should have been brought off earlier.
Once again though Newcastle were badly missing strength in depth on the bench and so the manager had little alternative but to keep Cabaye on.
Let’s hope that we don’t have a repeat of last season where players such as Ben Arfa ended up with long-term injuries thanks to being played when not 100%, due to Newcastle’s small squad.
