Is This The Way To Take Newcastle United Forward?
Not on the pitch, this time the disappointment came after the Newcastle United Supporters Trust email I received, which had a report of the meeting between the club and the supporters.
When asked if Sports Direct paid for adverting at St. James’ Park and it was confirmed that they do not, (Finance Director) John Irving said that Sports Direct were using space that would be otherwise unused but didn’t say how hard the commercial team were trying to find other (paying) advertisers.
So here are the points I am going to make about this:
1- NUFC has a company advertising their name all over the club for free.
2- The spokesman claimed that no one is interested in advertising there (assuming, hoping or just not answering his fax & emails?).
3- Not even trying to find companies that would want to advertise their brands and names with the club! What is the sales and marketing team doing then?
I’m not even going to go into the last transfer window business (or lack of it) as we all know what happened and it is just pointless.
If you read my few past articles you will realize that I am pro-Ashley (from a financial point of view) but when I find out that the debt has barely changed in 5 years and that his company is advertising for free in the club then I am really disappointed.
This is a bit like things we see in the Middle East and in the 3rd world. Absolutely horrendous, is this the way to take the club forward? Any Geordies working in the club who have a hand in this should be ashamed of themselves.
I am disappointed at that and it’s a shame as usually I keep my disappointments to the events that happen on the pitch.
What can I do? I will keep getting the fans over here together and keep supporting the team from sunny Dubai.
