‘First Time In 14 Months I Have Real Competition In Almost Every Area’ – Alan Pardew
The last year or more has seen the team more or less pick itself a lot of the time, or indeed all of the time for many of us.
Alan Pardew though believes that he could now be having the luxury of competition all around the pitch.
Before the Villa match the manager has drawn attention especially to the midfield area. He has acknowledged the form of Sissoko and Anita in the last couple of matches but with Cabye and Tiote now available who will he pick?
“David Ginola summed it up last night, he (Cabaye) has a duty to the French national team and to us and he’s carrying that duty out with full responsibility.
If you look at ourselves and Aston Villa we are very similar in terms of finance available, so results against them could decide positions at the end of the season.
Benteke took them up a notch and the rest of their group have followed his lead.
We had everybody training today so I’m very pleased with our pre-season to be in this position, we have all of our squad available, almost to a man.
We have Yohan and Cheick both available now, so that’s a really competitive area for this team. For the first time in 14 months I have real competition in almost every area because everyone happens to be fit. Something that is very important because it spurs players on and pushes them to a different level.”
Maybe the big positive is that at long last Newcastle will have options to come off the bench and hopefully change the game if need be, rather than just chucking a couple of different players on for the sake of it, which I believe has happened all too often in the 14 months or more that Alan Pardew refers to.
