Fabricio Colocinni – “It Could Be Us”

Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has spoken of his side’s desire to emulate Swansea City and win this season’s League Cup.

We see what other teams have done and feel it could be us. We’re hungry, as players of course we want to win something.”

However, when speaking to the Chronicle, Coloccini also claims squad rotation is important in order to give fringe players game time and so regular first-team players are refreshed for the busy League schedule. Players like Paul Dummett and Sammy Ameobi are expected to start tonight’s game against Leeds United alongside more experienced such as Cheick Tiote and Coloccini himself, who said, “we have a game on Monday [away to Everton], so we have to recover.”

Leeds United travel to Newcastle for a competitive fixture for the first time since 2004 when the Magpies won 1-0 thanks to an Alan Shearer goal. Current captain Coloccini spoke of his desire to be the first Toon captain since Bob Moncur to lift a trophy in Newcastle’s colours.

We’ve got to look to tonight and get the win we need. We have a good chance at home against Leeds, for us it is very important.”
