Do Newcastle Fans Have To Take Their Medicine?

There has been quite a torrent of invective directed at MA and his management team over the last few days, not least towards JFK who is, quite frankly, a waster of biblical proportion, and worthy of all of the vitriol poured in his general direction.

Apart though from the complete non-job the waster has, and I have an inkling that MA was still paying him after  his illness as I don’t remember him being sacked or having his contract cancelled, and that’s the only reason he was given a job, rather than pay him to do nothing.

But I don’t understand why there has been such an outcry because we haven’t signed anyone bar Remy. The plain fact of the matter that can be gleaned from the pages and pages of stuff written about us, is not that Ashley doesn’t care, he’s just not going to spend any more of his own money on the team.

His policy spouted out elsewhere a couple of seasons ago, was that the team had to pay its own way. It was blindingly obvious from around June that they were touting Cabaye around and hoping someone would come in and buy him at a healthy premium to NUFC, presumably with the intention of reinvesting said transfer fee back into the squad.

Indeed whilst there had been rumblings of ongoing transfers before the Arsenal bid, as soon as it was made and a further bid was expected, the speculation as to whom we were lining up went berserk, one can only presume that not all of this speculation was uninformed given JFK’s predilection of opening his gob at the wrong time. Money coming in equals money being spent, when it became obvious that Arsenal weren’t coming back, JFK et al stood down, no money to spend.

I also have little doubt that had the gonk not handed in a transfer request to Everton, Man U would have taken Cabaye as predicted late Monday afternoon on S***** D***** News and thus echoing Pardews comments of us being vulnerable right up to the wire, or whatever it was he said exactly about losing a player and not being able to replace him or her.

As we have all been told elsewhere on this site we’ve had a balanced transfer sheet over the last few years, so it would seem a reasonable bet that we’ll be operating on this basis going forward. We have to sell before we can buy.

There has also been much talk about MA pocketing the extra revenue from the TV and W*nga deals but if we consider that we already owed him £140m, is it any wonder that he wants it paid back and if you consider that his objective on team performance is no more ambitious than top 10, is it any wonder that he appears to be taking the cash now to reduce the debt we owe him.

I mean, does anyone seriously think we’ll go down this season with this team, despite AP’s apparent lack of tactical nous. Clearly MA doesn’t, therefore he can cream off a year’s cash and repay the club’s debt to him.

If he is true to this policy of non-investment, I would posit that at the moment the club pays off the debt to him then he will leave the TV and sponsorship money in the club and the club will be in a position to spend money without selling first.

To approach the situation this way keeps the match ticket prices at reasonable rates in comparison to other clubs at the same time, as he has already stipulated he wanted to do a couple of years ago.  Whilst I’d rather he’d sell up and ship out there or spend some of his own money on the squad, it is a distinct possibility that if we’re patient and get through this period of enforced consolidation intact and in the PL, we could end up doing rather well out of MA and his stewardship of the club and be a buying club again
