Di Canio Loses £8000 As Sending Off Ref Gets Newcastle Reward

The decision by Sunderland to give their latest untried manager a relative fortune to spend/waste, appears to be not going too well so far…

Having bought a more or less whole new team, the mackems are currently rock bottom and with 14 new signings, plus their three best players no longer there (Sessegnon, Mignolet and Rose), it is looking like the second coming of Roy Keane.

Seen as a ‘character’, Di Canio has added to the comedy value with his sending off to top the Arsenal home defeat.

Di Canio complaining to referee Martin Atkinson who then told him to stop or else he would send him to the stands.

Di Canio replying, “If you want to complete a perfect job, you send me off”. So he did!

The Sunderland manager has now accepted a charge of ‘improper conduct’ and an eight thousand pound fine to go with it.

Ironically, referee Atkinson will now officiate at Newcastle’s match against Hull on Saturday and a Newcastle win and the same treatment for Steve Bruce would do very nicely.
