Confused, Disappointed But Still Excited
Doom & Gloom hovers on the horizon for some of the NUFC supporters after what is considered a disastrous transfer window.

- The management thinks the squad is strong enough for a top half finish. How? Well the whole squad that finished 5th (minus Ba, Simpson & Perch, plus Harper if you want to add him) is still at the club, plus the 5 signings from last January; 3 of them have already forced themselves into the first 11 (Debuchy, M’Biwa & Sissoko) plus Remy who is Ba’s replacement (temporary or permanent? Not sure).
Some (including me) argue that another striker is still needed. I think the club did in fact try to sign forwards that could give the team an improvement or a boost, not just sign anyone to please the fans.
Look at the mackems! They have signed 14 players! I tell you what, most of them are average, believe me. Probably none of them could get into our team.
- No one sold! Cabaye had an offer and Ashley forced him to stay, he had a price tag and Arsenal didn’t match it and then the player spat his dummy but it was handled by the club with dignity and nothing was out in public. It’s things like this that make me even more confused as he wants to keep the best players but doesn’t want to sign anyone!
- Another theory. Look at the last 5 seasons and the net spending on players. The club actually made money. Usually all clubs spend 15-20 million a season on new signings, NUFC spent a net close to nothing. Is Ashley getting his money back for the interest free amount that he loaned the club? Or is he trying to sell? No one knows.
- Is the club waiting for the January transfer window where they could get better deals for players with contracts about to expire? It worked last season. Players like Gomis who cost 8 million now will cost next to nothing in 4 months (save £4/5million) but gamble in the next 15-18 games between now and then? As there is no European football this season his gamble might work out! Only time will tell.
Lets support the team as we always do and hope for the best.
Just another confused, disappointed but excited Newcastle United supporter, currently in Dubai.
