Ben Arfa Takes Top Award With Creditable Silver & Bronze As Well
Always interesting to see how the fans collectively see things after the final whistle.
Our usual man of the match poll has produced some interesting results after the Fulham win.
Hatem’s contribution was obvious for all to see, his superb goal and numerous shots, as well as a fair bit of frustration as well as he attempted top do it all himself, a carbon copy of the West Ham match in many ways.
With such single-mindedness it can impact on other players and I thought Moussa Sissoko deserved a lot of credit for the relentless running and attempts to create decent situations up front. Sissoko was next best after Ben Arfa with a creditable 10% of votes but one moment summed up his unselfish behaviour for the team.
During the first half as United struggled to create and Hatem was shooting on sight, Newcastle broke with Ben Arfa and Sissoko showed an unbelievable burst of speed to go in an arc from left to right and give Hatem an easy ball for Sissoko to get in behind them…obviously Ben Arfa shot instead!
Moussa Sissoko obviously was ‘disappointed’ that Ben Arfa had chosen the wrong option but there were no histrionics, Sissoko simply jogging back down the pitch and joining the action.
Obviously the problem comes when somebody like Sissoko is making great off the ball runs but nobody else is, look at the difference once the subs came on and we had a number of players making complementary runs to pull Fulham apart.
In third spot was Mapou with 8%, good to see fans recognising he put in a decent shift after having a bit of a nightmare at Morecambe.
Saturday’s result and that last 15/20 minutes have given us all a bit of hope and a foundation which all three of the above can build on in various ways.
